Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Using quad-ruled notebooks in a math class makes a huge difference in the way diverse learners absorb mathematical ideas. By organizing notes, creating tables and drawing graphs, students have a self-created visual representation of abstract concepts.
These interactive notebooks become a valuable resource throughout the year by promoting creativity, organization, accountability and personal growth.
Students can see their strengths and areas of improvement from the beginning of the year and set specific goals each cycle. Besides making math concepts easy to visualize, the use of a grid notebook becomes a tool when re-visiting ideas and academic vocabulary for end of year assessments.
Algebra I is a dense, fast-paced class, so it is important to have a place to compile charts, graphs, graphic organizers, key ideas, vocabulary, thoughts and questions. Using teacher modeling, we start the year with structured guided notes to develop studying techniques. As the year progresses, students have more flexibility in the way they organize their notes and key information learned in class according to their individual learning styles.
