This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I am the only school counselor for over 700 amazing students. Ninety percent of our students are Latino and 76% are from low-income families. About 11% of our students are considered special needs. Our students are bright and creative and come from hard-working, loving families that want to see their children succeed.
My students are eager to learn and happy to be in school; however, school can be challenging for students who lack the social skills to make friends, manage their emotions, and/or resolve conflicts positively.
My Project
I always look forward to the beginning of the school year when I get to see my students after the summer off. It always amazes me how much they grow and mature over a few months. This year, however, with the recent announcement that our school district would begin the school year remotely, I will sadly not be able to physically welcome them back to school.
Please help me welcome back my students and encourage them throughout the year with postcards that will be created with the requested items.
I will be creating and printing post cards for our students and mailing them to their homes. The toner cartridge will allow colorful and bright messages on the card stock, then will be cut using the paper cutter, and mailed to student's homes.
Children are usually pleasantly surprised when they receive mail and I hope these postcards will remind them how much they are missed. In addition to a welcome back message, I will be mailing inspirational messages to our students throughout remote learning. This school year will be different, but with these positive postcard messages I hope they feel encouraged and motivated to try their best.
