Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach Dual Language in second grade. My students are wonderful! Every day is different and a great learning experience. My students are a joy to teach and always eager to learn. They are learning to break away from the playful manner of learning in kinder and first grade. However, they love to explore and interact with each other and thus, learn from each other. Our school is a Title I school and is located in a low socioeconomic area. All of my students qualify for free breakfast as well as lunch. However, as soon as they walk into my classroom, they leave their hardships at the door and they are ready to learn!

My Project

My students looked out the window and started asking questions about the abandoned garden at our school. Then, they came up with a great idea. They want to take over the garden. I have requested a laptop computer so that my students can research information for our environmental garden and healthy eating project. This resource will change my students by teaching them how to garden and grow their own food.

My students will learn healthier eating habits as well as staying active and healthy.

The laptop computer will also be used to create presentations on how gardening helps to produce our own food. Later, the presentations will be shared with other students in our school and parents.
