Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students come from the Southeast side of Chicago, and many are from immigrant families. Almost 90% are low-income. My school is a PreK-8 building comprising around 850 students total. The demographics are 95% Latino, 3% African American and 2% White. All of our families are hard-working, blue collar, and proud.
Even though they might not have much, our parents push their children to work hard and make a better life for themselves.
They want their kids to grow and succeed.
My Project
My students need these tables to have a great place to write and discuss rich texts dealing with tolerance. These tables will let them be able to sit right next to their peers, special needs and regular-ed, side by side.
By giving them this space to collaborate, my hope is that it will foster more tolerance and acceptance not only in our classroom but throughout our school community and beyond.
Having these tables in our classroom will continue to foster a strong classroom community, while focusing on tolerance in our writing and discussions. These tables will continue to push our students to the next level.
