Greek Mythology And The Arts

My students need 46 books for learning about, creating projects, and performing Greek Mythology. These books include activities in all the Arts.

My Students

The artist gazes upon a reality and creates his own impression. The viewer gazes upon the impression and creates his own reality.- Robert Brault. I want my students to turn their knowledge of Greek Mythology into performances and projects that will deepen their understanding of this rich history.

My K-5th grade Title I public school is in a rural area located a few miles from the beautiful coast of NC.

We serve many English as a Second Language students. As in most rural communities, jobs are scarce and money is tight. With state-wide district cuts, we must make the most of our supplies. My 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade Academically Gifted students are very aware of their coastal surroundings and work towards keeping their community environmentally clean for the abundant wildlife and natural resources. My students appreciate beauty in nature and are always creating this natural beauty in their assignments and projects. They learn best when they can apply their creative skills to all aspects of their learning. We have an entire semester devoted to Greek Mythology and would like to fill this time with activities and performances that will bring their learning to life by acting out favorite myths.

My Project

I am requesting CDs, books and informational reading on Greek Mythology. My students are studying Greek Mythology and have become fascinated with the gods and goddesses and their stories. I have found I can teach all the Common Core strands with the myths of ancient Greece. We study reading, history, vocabulary, grammar, affixes, and critical thinking skills when we read the myths. We also take great joy in creating projects with the myths. We need more reading materials on mythology. Our classroom library has just a few books. My students want to make trading cards, write their own myths, illustrate books, and act out their favorites for a greater understanding of how these myths relate to our life today. The books on productions of the myths will be essential tools for my students to prepare their own theatrical productions in our classroom. We have the props and technology we need to support these productions but need the books for the information and the stories themselves.

Help my students produce performances of their favorite Greek Myths.

They will be so excited to read and create activities and performances of the Greek myths. This will further their understanding and also give them an outlet for their creativity. When their natural creativity is applied to their learning, the results are amazing. My students are fascinated by Greek Mythology and want to express their understanding through activities and performances. Please help them by supplying these books.
