My Project

My name is Mr. LeVan, and I am a high school history teacher in the School District of Philadelphia. I have taught English, World History, and African American history to a variety of students, including Bilingual learners. I am teaching a class on the history, philosophy, and mythology of Ancient Greece and Rome and would love for my students to read this graphic novel of the Iliad, as it will make the classics more accessible for them.

The goal of this project is to expose students to one of the great classics of the Western canon and of the great pieces of world literature.

Something they normally would not get a chance to experience unless they went to university and majored in the classics. However, I believe the classics belong to us all. I am designing this course from scratch and will need to acquire supplies from my own pocket and various other resources.

My students are some of the brightest and hardest-working kids I have ever met. They also have good hearts and are at an age where they are starting to wonder about the wider world I have been at my school for two years and have been fortunate to get to know them. Please give them the opportunity to learn and read from a classic. I will acquire an entire class set to make sure each kid gets a copy to read. Plus a few emergency copies in case one gets damaged or lost.
