Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I have always tried to make my classroom as inviting and engaging as possible. However when I took over my 2nd grade class last year, I inherited a classroom library that was depleted of fun, new and engaging resources. Limited books, equals to limiting my students learning.

My 2nd graders are highly motivated and come from a hard working community in NYC.

Most students are ELLs, in which their first language is Spanish. Therefore, they must be exposed to great books and literature so the wondrous doors of imagination open up to new opportunities and great experiences. They love exploring the world around them and love learning new things. They need a print rich environment and exposure to this through a variety of resources.

My Project

Finding great new books in their class library is one more way to motivate and inspire my children. Students learn in a variety of ways. They also read at different levels. Finding these new books in different genres and levels will empower my students to want to continue to read and grow. The Magic Tree House series will open up new adventures, not only for "Jack and Annie", but for my entire second grade class. Which I am confident that by the end of the year we will be able to read independently and go beyond that.

Please help me provide an environment that is conducive to learning.

A library that includes a variety of books and genres may reach all learners. These resources will help my students in their life long journey of education. You may be the key to unlocking that love for reading by providing these new books to add to our library.
