Great Minds Are Ready to Shine

Help me give my students hands on experiences, allowing them to problem solve and enhance their phonics and word solving strategies. Fairy Tale STEM Kits will especially help students think beyond their understanding when making connections to literature.

My Students

My first graders are curious and full of creative ideas! They are eager to learn more and are good at asking questions that challenge me as a teacher, which I love! With their brains constantly spinning and full of energy, these students keep things lively and interesting on a daily basis.

They thrive off of interaction with their peers and enjoy opportunities to work with manipulatives or center activities.

Their excitement to share personal connections to our lessons touches my heart. We are located in a public school that recently merged to a K-8 setting a little over a year ago.

Our community was recently affected by Hurricane Florence back in the fall which closed our county's schools for almost 6 weeks. We were all excited to get back to school, but we essentially were starting school all over again. Accepting the challenge, my first graders continue to work hard to improve their learning!

My Project

First graders have to jump through hoops and then some when it comes to phonics strategies and reading fluency. Being out of school for the hurricane put us pretty far behind. They have so much potential and I want to help them shine as much as possible this year! My students engage best during hands-on activities and educational games. We are constantly incorporating small group activities throughout our day because they feel the need to move and work with their hands. Pencil and paper is not for them! By having these hands-on activities, such as the Phonics and Word Recognition Folder Games, students will be able to stay on task and make gains in their reading fluency.

My students love to think outside the box and enjoy our themed lessons!

The Fairy Tale Problem Solving Kits will allow them to see that there is more than one way to solve a problem, not only when they are building a house for The Three Little Pigs, but also in their phonics and reading strategies. With your help, these resources will help challenge my students and make learning interesting while taking their reading to the next level!
