This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach in a low-income community with a high population of ELL learners. Although they may come from financial hardships and are newcomers to this country, they come into school every day willing and eager to learn.

My students are genuinely kind, passionate, and determined.

They love reading and their volume amazes me every day. They bury themselves into their books and they are always determined to move up to the next reading level. Many of them come from single-parent households or live in overcrowded homes with other family members. Still, they turn in homework every day because our motto is "Never say I can't do this. Instead say I will try, fail, and try again until I get there." This is my second year of teaching and already my students motivate me as a teacher and person every day to help lift them up, just like my teachers did with me when I was their age.

My Project

I want to implement some task and resources for differentiated centers. I need sets of flash cards (multiplication/division/vocabulary), sets of dry erasable math task cards for problem-solving, and answer buzzers to hold math competition games in class. I will set up centers and stations so that they are learning in a more active and engaging way.

My students would like to see more Math centers and stations in the classroom so that when they are done with the lesson’s work, they have other activities to work on that will better prepare them for tests and improve their abilities to explain and debate math work.

These centers will allow my students to build their fluency skills and better understand concepts that they will have to explain through the year.

They really love this and my school administration encourages it!

when students are done with assigned work, they will have a next step to work on which will be to go to the station and select a task card or math game that relates to the topic they have just learned or a review topic based on a previous math chapter. These stations can also be differentiated to meet my students' individual needs: enrichment, reinforce, or reteach/review.

They will develop a passion and love for learning math and they will be so confident and positive towards a math test. I want them to use academic vocabulary when talking and explaining or debating their thinking and logic for WHY and how they came to their conclusions.
