Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

This proposal is for a public school by the name of Gunsaulus Academy located in the Bridgeport area of Chicago. I teach a 5th grade classroom where I teach the core subjects (language arts, writing, math, science, and social studies). The students are predominately low-income. I want my students to read regularly in the classroom and at home but if you cannot afford books or if you do not live close to a library you will not be able to do this. Books that the school provides for students are often generic and low interest. They are not books they have seen in libraries or stores. I want to bring quality literature to the classroom. This proposal will provide books from quality writers such as Roald Dahl, Judy Blume, J.K. Rowling, and other great authors for the students to read. This proposal also contains a lot of great classics for 5th grade and great biographies for students to read. Your donation will give my students the chance to read quality literature in school and enjoy them to love reading more. Students will learn to love reading more if the literature itself is fun and interesting.
