Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students love the library and they love good literature!

Many of them are new to the United States and they are working hard to learn to read.

They enjoy audiobooks because they can hear stories at their intellectual level even though the reading level may be too high for them.

Our students come from many backgrounds, but for many of them, English is a second language. We also have students who are fluent in English but at not reading at grade level.

These students have been working hard to master reading. Playaways help them with comprehension and vocabulary. I see their tenacity and grit in mastering reading and their reading scores show it. They work hard in class and listening to a good book is a great way to relax and enjoy the beauty of the written word.

We currently have 7 Playaways and they are so popular there is a long reserve list.

My Project

My students love books! Many of them are held back from accessing good literature because they read below grade level.

Audiobooks (Playaways) are a way my students can experience good literature.

Listening to good literature help with comprehension as well as learning unfamiliar vocabulary. For my second language students, this is invaluable.

I have paired these Playaways with the novel so students can read along. Many students enjoy the help a Playway can give them in struggling to read words that are unfamiliar.

We have a small collection of Playaways and I have seen how students understand and comprehend these books through listening to them.
