This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Music is an incredibly important part of human life. Every child deserves access to a good music education. In many places around the country, music is considered a given in the schools. In Los Angeles County, that has not been the case for dozens of public and public charter schools. In fact, 2023-2024 was the first year of music at our Academy since 2017, and most of my students are experiencing music for the very first time.
My dream is to provide enough instruments for EVERY STUDENT who's signed up for orchestra next year to be able to play WITHOUT needing to rent their instrument.
These students are hard workers who love music! This year, we had five classes of beginners- next year, we are going to have modern band and orchestra too! I'm so happy to give these students access to a music education that they are excited about. We need supplies to keep this train moving! I want us to keep the music flowing and not prevent students from playing just because they can't afford to pay a monthly fee. My students are mostly low-income, and most of them have wanted to learn music for years, but have not been able to afford it.
I know that my dream is big, and isn't a given. I also know that all of us, and all of our schools, are struggling. Your generosity and time is so appreciated. Thank you so much for thinking of us!
