This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
It seems harder and harder to get students engaged with reading these days. Reluctant readers struggle to find books that interest them at their level. One of the ways I engage my students' interest is to offer creative and fun projects that help them make sense of their reading in a new way.
To improve their reading, students need not only quality books but also multiple ways to show that they understand how those books relate to their own world.
By providing books and the materials for them to creatively interact with the literature, students can come to realize that books can not only be interesting but help them open their imaginations.
These books are both important and fun, tackling some of the areas with which adolescents struggle the most. Adding in graphic novels which capture the interest of lower level and reluctant readers helps me reach the widest possible range of readers in my classroom.
