Great readers don't just happen—they grow through access to effective reading instruction coupled with access to great books. As a librarian, I have witnessed the effects on students when a good book impacts how they see themselves, the world, and their place in it. Unfortunately, funding for my efforts to get these books into the hands of our students has dwindled significantly.

The collection of books in this project includes national award recipients and nominees for our state book award, the Maud Hart Lovelace Book Award, the winner of which student readers select annually. I will encourage all my students to read, discuss, and share these books through book tks, book clubs, and reading celebrations. In addition to receiving the benefits of reading great books, our students will be prepared to help choose our state book award winner, allowing them to develop literacy skills and personal agency while participating in something bigger than themselves.
Most of us have been touched by a good book at some point. As a librarian, I want to be sure all the amazing kiddos at my school working hard to grow their reading skills will have the same opportunity to be moved and inspired by a good book. When they continue to read and grow through reading, it gets stronger. Without when the book hooking them in doubt, strong reading skills transfer to nearly every other academic and real-life experience our learners will find themselves in. With your help, our students can access books that will shape them personally and academically and prepare them to participate fully in their world.
