My students need excellent character and series books to engage them in reading! Our students have fallen in love with some very special characters, so we would love to add those books for our classroom library.

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The students from my ICT class live in a very poor, urban neighborhood with mostly immigrant families who speak little to no English at home. So, in addition to having students with learning disabilities, the majority of our students are also ESL learners. This makes gaining progress in reading difficult to say the least, and it's hard to get them motivated to read.

Many students in our class do not even have a public library card to go and take out books to read at home.

Their book choices are limited to whatever we have in our classroom library. We are looking to grow our classroom library by adding great series books with strong characters that our students will enjoy and want to read over and over again!

My Project

We are asking for certain character/series books to add to our classroom library. Some of these titles include books in the Fly Guy series, Little Critter, Eloise, Biscuit and Tiny the dog books. We have a few in our library now, but our students are always asking for more books featuring these beloved characters! The books we are asking for here focus on great characters and the adventures and problems that they have. When students become involved with a character or a specific series, they tend to read more, which is what our students need to do to increase their stamina and word decoding skills. These books will be a great new addition to our classroom library and really get our students excited about reading!

Whenever there are any new books added to our classroom library the students get very excited to take out the new books to bring home to read.

We are hoping to promote reading at home and to build reading stamina in our classroom with these new books.
