This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
We are an ethnically diverse PreK-8 school of over 900 students located in South Philadelphia. As a Community School, we serve students in our Primary School (Pre-K through Grade 5), our Upper School (Grades 6-8), as well as offering other classes and after-school programs for the community at large.
We believe that students are the most important people in the school.
They are not an interruption of our work — they are the purpose of it. Students are deserving of the most courteous, attentive and culturally sensitive treatment.
My Project
Racial injustice has been a part of our nation's history since the first settlers arrived on our shores. Students who are black or brown and come from low-income families, are at a disadvantage when it comes to the kinds of books they have access to at home and in their classrooms. Motivating students through topics that relate to their own lives and cultures is extremely.
By supporting this project, my students will be exposed to award winning literature, that they need in order to find their place in the world, and know that they too can accomplish great things.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
