My Students
Do you remember what it was like the first time you entered Kindergarten? All the amazing and fun items to play with. Little did you know you were learning at the same time. Imagine if you were 5 again however, this time you speak little to no English and you are enrolled in an inner city school.
I currently have 29 students come in and out of my Kindergarten ELL classroom each day.
Not only do I have the challenge of their language background but the school itself is an inner city school. There is one child with autism and another with asperger. We are a title one school, which means most if not all of my students are free and reduced lunch. They are eager students who want to learn the most they can. Each day is a new beginning for them. I want them to reach all that they possibly can. One way to do this is by offering as much hands on manipulative's I possibly can. When they are engaged in hands-on activities rather than worksheets their learning process increases 90% faster. The funds the school offers me are limited and what funds I receive, I need to purchase crayons, scissors, glue, pencils, construction paper, ect. The students feel safe and cared for at school. I want them to gain as much as they possibly can while enjoying life and learning at the same time.
My Project
Math concepts are easy to grasp with tons of kid-pleasing manipulative's. The students will explore early math concepts as they count with count on math game sand number bags! Students have so much trouble with reading word problems in higher grades I want to expose them to it in Kindergarten with read and solve word problems. Some are just learning to express their vocabulary and I want to get the early math jars and sorting centers to further their math skills. The let' s go shopping would be wonderful. It would work on their language and math skills at once. I am a teacher that likes to inter connect my teaching as much as possible. I want to represents numbers in a variety of ways. The items I am asking for you to donate for my classroom will help them write the numerals, count and write math mats along with tracing number cards. I will be able to use these items in whole group introduction, small group practice, and centers for reinforcement and independent practice.
Math manipulative's would help me to produce more successful students.
I would be able to reach visual and auditory learners as well as those children who are hesitant to verbalize out loud . These manipulative's would also make math very enjoyable . For these reasons, I am requesting these hands on math manipulative to enrich and aid in my students' educational program. Can you please help these wonderful 29 students who want to learn master all of their math skills?
