This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students come from low-income, largely immigrant families. Some live with nine people in a one bedroom apartment, some live in a garage. Distance learning has been hard for them logistically and emotionally.

I want to provide them with the best resources to make learning mathematics possible at home.

I can't change their home situations but I can help them have all the materials they need to do school.

My Project

Our school has 2 sets of graphing calculators that the students use in the classroom. The Algebra 2 students were not able to take them home when we went to distance learning in March. With more calculators we could send them home with one in August when we go back to school, which we are told will be distance learning.

In the age of COVID-19, we can't have students sharing calculators and need to provide one to each child to keep them safe.

Many of our families are not working and are struggling to pay rent and buying an expensive calculator is beyond their means at this time.
