it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Choosing Special Education as a career path has changed my outlook on life. I get to spend my days with 24 students between 5th and 6th grade who look at the world around them in a whole new light and it is so rewarding. These kids just want to take in every bit of information I can give them. We laugh together, learn together and grow together.
Our school is a Title I school where 98% of our students qualify for free and reduced priced food.
Not just lunch though, our school serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. It is a suburb of Phoenix that has a high poverty rate and high crime rate, yet my students come every day with smiles on their faces and want to be here.
The school has an A rating and strives for excellence for all of the students. This proves that coming from a title I school does not need to hold the students back. These kids strive to do their best and are thriving while they are with us in school.
My Project
A graphics tablet that I can have at home and in my classroom will help me with directly manipulating reading work through Zoom. We use many websites that offer the kids the luxury of manipulating directly on the screen and I will be able to complete work and give examples simultaneously using the graphics tablet. The added riser will help lift my computer off the desk to afford me the luxury to use the tablet each day for our reading instruction. Our kids use a reading process that is written directly on the website used and has been proven difficult to use without these items.
My students are working on reading concepts that they are really struggling with due to the nature of being online and when I can use these items to show them directly on the Zoom call how to complete tasks.
The extra hub will also give me access to an external monitor and my document camera that I use now every day.
This year has been hard on everyone. My students are struggling to make the connections with new content since we don't have access to manipulations we would have while in the class. These items will be somewhat of a bridge to give them access to seeing how they should complete tasks within our online resources. Having the ability to know they are learning will prove to all of us that they can still do well given our tough circumstances.
