My students need graphic novels to give some kids a love for reading that doesn';t exist including Captain Underpants, El Deafo, and Drama. Graphic novels will help the story come alive and engage some of my students.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Lots of my students have not found their passion for reading. Through having graphic novels in my classroom I believe they can make the stories come alive and have the desire to want to read.
My students come from 7 different countries and speak different languages.
They also come from low income households, for many they do not have a safe place to go home to. None the less a collection of books at home that they can read. Our school is a Title 1 school that offers breakfast and lunch for our kids. We do all we can, but by providing these books we can give them more options to read.
My Project
My students will be able to use these graphic novels to read during independent reading time. They also will be able to bring these books home to read for their reading homework. I believe that once a student finds a passion for reading they can improve in all that they do. Graphic novels allows them to think in a new way through creativity.
By providing these graphic novels to our class we are allowing students who otherwise would not have a passion to reading to gain that passion.
Not every student learns the same way or has the same interests. I want all my students to love reading and I believe these books will help provide that love.
