Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The students enrolled in this middle school are bright, eager, and curious scholars with a desire for learning. Most of these students will be first-generation college students: they know and understand that education is the key to success.

The books in the library should be in decent condition, contain accurate information, and be relevant and engaging.

Though these students live in a poverty-stricken community, their lives are filled with a wealth of resiliency, persistence, and determination. These students deserve to have a library that is a safe, inviting, comfortable space where they can come to read, work independently, or in groups.

My Project

Students will be delighted with the adventures in the "Dog Man" series by author Dav Pilkey, a student favorite. Readers will be entertained with the story of Maureen and Francine in the brilliant new book "Twins." These types of books are a hit among students. Images and colors, along with lighthearted stories, help to bring these books to life.

Graphic novels are a great way to support reluctant & emergent readers.

Often these types of readers might feel overwhelmed by tackling a book with pages and pages filled with words. Reluctant readers are more likely to select a book with images. If they read something, they enjoy they are more likely to check out another book. For emergent readers having images is a helpful aid as they work to increase comprehension. Reading one of these books is a sure way to increase their confidence.

Graphic novels are a helpful tool for developing literacy skills amongst all students. Having these books available will generate overall excitement about reading and increase circulation as students devour these fun-filled stories!
