Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are currently attending a Title I School. For those of you who do not know what a Title I school is -- A Title I School is a school with a high number or percentages of children from low-income families. Additionally, our school population has an extremely high amount of ELLs (English Language Learners), which means they are trying to learn the English Language while also learning to read and write to the expectations of the Colorado Standards set for ALL high school students across the state, regardless of background.

Due to low-income backgrounds, most of our students have not been exposed to many of the experiences that are often taken for granted by the general population.

Students spend most of their time learning reading, writing, math, science, social studies, and life skills. Each day is a challenge and I do my best to meet the needs of my students. School is their happy place where they grow and learn while staying safe, comfortable, healthy, and understood. Opportunities like this can change their lives and their outlook forever!

My Project

These graphic novels are a way to inspire my students who are bilingual to read and expand their knowledge. These graphic novels are what the students want to read and also part of the books we read. By having these books my students will be able to read and comprehend the stories. These books will be the start of our classroom library in which we hope to grow more this year.

With these books, my students will be able to start reading books they are interested in as well as the books being adapted for easier reading.

They will be able to expand their knowledge and work on comprehension as well.
