Our library is a K-12 library serving approximately 600 students. The staff is innovative with a strong desire to provide the most effective learning environment available to students.
Our student population consists of a high percentage of low-income families who have very little access to opportunities outside of school and our small town.
One of the great things about our school is that it has a great sense of community, thus our school is a hub for the community.
The library is where students come to discover the love of reading. Our staff strives for equity and celebrates diversity. Our library collection needs to have books that will grab the interest of all levels of readers.
My Project
These books will continue to support my library goal of having fun and engaging books for all readers. To keep up their love of reading it is important to have new, engaging books available.
My students love graphic novels!
Students, even reluctant readers, are able to read graphic novels and manga quickly, they then return to the library to grab the next in the series. They spread the word among friends the different books they have read, increasing the demand for these types of books. The graphic novel section of our library is always picked clean.
With these new books, my middle and high school students will be able to choose from a variety of books that will continue to expand their love of reading. These books will give students the desire to still make time for reading even with their busy schedules. Most students don't have access to other libraries so having the best selection possible for our middle and high school readers is a must. Access to graphic novels and manga help to make reading fun for those all readers.
