My students need a variety of genres to read; these graphic novels will help fill that void in my classroom, as well as, provide access to books which may foster greater motivation to read for pleasure.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students walk through the door each morning full of energy, ready to learn, and excited to see what knowledge they will gain for the day. I make sure to come to school ready to match that energy.
I teach at a Title I school in southern California where almost all of our students receive free breakfast and lunch.
Eighty five percent of the students qualify for a free or reduced price lunch.
Despite the many associated hardships, my students are eager to learn and do their very best which I expect of each of them. They want to be in school because they want to learn, and it's my pleasure to make this happen.
My Project
The purpose of this project is to obtain graphic novels to instill a love of reading in my students. They need books that are of high interest to them. And what a better way to do that than graphic novels. I am certain that if I provide my students with books that have vivid illustrations they will be more willing to pick up the book and read it. After all, what child doesn't like drawings. I consistently have students tell me that they like books with illustrations. Graphic novels will also help my students improve their basic comprehension skills because the graphics will help illustrate the text. Moreover, they will also improve their analytical skills by studying the characters in the story and follow the story line and use their imagination to fill in the gaps.
I strongly believe that the use of graphic novels in my classroom will spark a love for reading for all my students, especially my reluctant readers.
Thus improving their fluency and comprehension skills in reading. Thank you in advance for your kindness and generosity.
