Graphic Novels for Reluctant Readers! (Part 2)

Help me give my students graphic novels to encourage them to read while they still have pictures to look at!

My Students

I teach third grade at a Title I school where my students are not provided many opportunities that some of their more affluent peers are provided. Many come from one-parent families or are raised by grandparents or other family members. Some are refugees from war-torn countries.

Even with all of that, one thing they all have in common is their love to learn!

They are excited and engaged when something interests them but in order to help keep them engaged, they need resources like up to date books and other materials that their parents cannot often afford so I have to rely on sites like DonorsChoose or use my own funds to help provide opportunities for my students.

My Project

If you walk into my room on any given day, you will find students laying all over the floor reading picture books for pleasure. They are not reading them because those are the books at their level, they are reading them because the books are enjoyable because of the pictures. They love being about to have a "comic-style" book while also being able to enjoy the story along with it!

Your donations will allow me to provide my students with graphic novels that will open their eyes to another type of book with pictures and introduce them to the joys of reading.

Graphic novels are the books that I can't get enough of in my room. Every time I add one to my collection, my students fight over them! They create a list for each book to keep track of who would get the books next. I can't wait to be able to surprise my class with a ton of new graphic novels to start a "wildfire" of reading in my classroom.
