Graphic Novels for Reluctant Readers Needed!

My students need graphic novels such as; Sports Illustrated Kids Graphic Novels, Star Wars: Clone Wars Adventures and Mighty Mighty Monsters to get them reading!

My Students

As their reading teacher, I know that it is not too late to cultivate their love for reading. I just need to find the right book to get them reading! I am requesting graphic novels to get my group of reluctant readers to read more often.

My kiddos are a group of fifth graders who are currently reading at a 2nd to 3rd grade level.

While they are still struggling with phonemic awareness and comprehension, they refuse to pick up books at their level. I am having a hard time getting them to read partly because they are embarrassed to read books at their level (as they are so low for their age), but also because the subject matter of those books are not as appealing. They want to read the "good books" that my higher level readers get to enjoy.

My Project

I believe that these graphic novels with get my reluctant readers reading. Having them in our classroom library will mean that not one kid will have an excuse not to read independently, but it will also mean that they will be practicing and improving their reading skills...and having fun while doing so. It will help with their comprehension as they have images and develop their vocabulary.

This year is my last last chance to get my 5th graders to love reading, but also better prepared for middle school.

With your donations I will not just be able to bring more books into my classroom for students to read, but books that they will be excited to read. They will get to practice their fluency and comprehension skills, as well as develop their vocabulary.
