Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Fourth graders are the best to teach! Why? They are learning and growing academically, socially and emotionally. My students love working in partners to build new skills. They help one another and challenge each other to do better. Next year, I will be teaching two classes of reading and social studies. We will start the year working to be the best readers we can.

I teach in a diverse, urban neighborhood school where many students are not able to practice skills at home.

Many parents want to help their student, but do not know how or do not have the means to provide additional resources. My school is a Title I school and nearly every student receives free breakfast and lunch daily. To create the best learning environment for my students, it is essential to get new and engaging supplies into their hands.

My Project

My fourth grade students read for 20 minutes every day. They are allowed to choose their own book. They take turns conferencing with me on their book choice and how to improve improve as a reader.

My 4th graders can't get enough of graphic novels this year!

The waitlist for the small selection that I do have is long. I'm noticing my reluctant readers are going back to read and reread their favorite graphic novels. I'm hoping to increase and diversify our current stock of graphic novels for the rest of the school year. Your donation will get highly anticipated books into the hands of engaged readers.
