Graphic Novels For Excitement About Reading, Writing And Art!

My students need 24 graphic novels, including classics like Macbeth, Romeo & Juliet, and Beowulf, as well as several new, culturally relevant novels.

My Students

Great books are the number one thing that help students improve their reading, and graphic novels encourage students of all levels to read!

I teach 6th grade at a Title I school that serves 750 students, in grades K-8.

We are incredibly diverse with over 30 languages spoken on the campus, but 85% of our school is also on free and reduced lunch. Acquiring basic supplies like pencils and paper are hard enough for my students, and getting books (especially NEW books) is often not even an option.

My Project

I have received some great graphic novels from DonorsChoose in the past, and it was SO successful! All of my students were excited to read, especially the struggling readers, but what surprised me most is how inspired they were by classic books. After reading the graphic novel version of Hamlet, a group of students who typically shied away from books created a Shakespeare Club. Others loved books like The Odyssey and Frankenstein. This only tells me we need more great graphic novels on the shelf!

My students are extremely needy, and I often spend my own money on helping them get through the year, but I don't have the luxury of buying new graphic novels for them.

By getting these 24 books including classics like Macbeth, Romeo & Juliet, and Beowulf in their hands, you will be making an impact the day the books arrive.
