Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

As a School Librarian, I make a positive impact on all 600 students in our learning community. My campus is a Title I school, and all students receive free breakfast and lunch. They show up to the library bright-eyed and eager to read, communicate, collaborate, and learn. The library is the heart of the school and a safe place where students can build a love of reading. My students have a wide variety of learning styles and levels. Each one is unique, and everyone in the library respects each other. I care about my students, and they know it!

My goal is to encourage students to become independent and lifelong readers and learners.

At the library, students enjoy reading a good book, being innovators, problem solvers, and critical thinkers. I especially love that they are creative and try their best at everything that comes their way. I want my students to remember me when they grow up, so I make them feel welcome, safe, and important on a daily basis.

My Project

Students love checking out books from the library and I want them to continue to enjoy it even during these difficult times. The graphic novels I have chosen are popular titles that my students continuously ask for. I would love to surprise them with these!

Graphic novels can be less daunting, and finishing one leads to a feeling of accomplishment and confidence, which is so important.

My graphic novel section in the library is a huge hit with a lot of students. They are approachable and accessible, while still teaching kids new vocabulary, reading skills, and life lessons. In addition, they allow kids who struggle with reading to enjoy stories that contain age-appropriate content and not feel self-conscious.

Keeping my students engaged and interested in reading is fundamental to becoming lifelong readers. Thank you for helping me continue to build a love of reading.
