Graphic Novel Book Clubs

My Students

I work with approximately 120 amazing sixth graders. I teach a diverse bunch of fun-loving students. I have many students whose first language is Spanish. I also have many students whose first language is English, but have chosen to be a part of my district's Two-Way Immersion program, and are fluent in both English and Spanish. My students are SO talented and unique in all of their own ways. I work towards are a fully inclusive classroom for students of ALL abilities. When my students enter sixth grade, they are wide-eyed and anxious. When they leave sixth grade, they are confident, bold, and ready for what lies ahead of them in middle school!

My Project

Instilling a genuine love for reading in all of my students is my number one goal as a teacher. I want students to see the value of reading in school, out of school, and everywhere in between. Providing a great variety of books for my students to choose from will help them generate this passion for reading by finding novels that they can get lost in. Many of my hesitant readers will have trouble finding this passion for reading. In my experience graphic novels have been the books to turn some of these discouraged readers around.

Graphic novels are REAL books, and kids LOVE to read them.

By showing my students that I value graphic novels and ALL types of reading in my classroom, they will see that reading doesn't have to be hard, and it can be fun!
