Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My school is located in an urban, low income neighborhood. Few students have families with an academic background, and most will be first generation college students.

Many of my students have only been in the country for 2 years or less.

They are progressing quickly on learning conversational English. One of the ways to make them more comfortable speaking in an academic setting is getting them to present information they have learned to the rest of the class. These students are highly motivated to succeed and just need the tools to do so.

My Project

This set of graphic books will be used as models for students to create their own story and graphic book. Students will analyze the structure of the story and use these models when creating their own story.

My students will become authors by creating their own graphic book after reading and analyzing these models.

Once students have created their graphic books, students will showcase their work in a gallery walk with other classes. This will help students identify as writers and authors in a way that is more accessible to them, even those with limited English skills. They can then take this book with them and show others their creative talent.
