Help me give my students relevant yet age-appropriate information on what is happening in our world by reading current events with Scholastic News and Science Spin.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Whole group instruction does not provide differentiation and individualized learning for my scholars, who range from emergent readers to fluent, chapter-book readers. Small group instruction, with practice on technology usage, will maximize the learning for these scholars who are eager to learn.
My students hail from diverse backgrounds, from "military brats" to longshoremen offspring, to families who have lived in the neighborhood of our school community for decades.
Because of this, our school is considered a transient school with many students coming in and out, based on where their parents need to be. This causes inconsistency in their learning, and often the students suffer and lose out on the learning. Nevertheless, they are eager to work together and learn, absorb what's happening in the classroom, and yearn to belong. Providing these scholars with consistent small group instruction, with this technology component, will enhance their learning and maximize each learning minute individualized to each student's specific needs. They will benefit greatly with the usage of technology in the classroom environment on a daily basis.
My Project
Every school provides a set of materials for each subject for the students to utilize to master learning in those subjects. However, some materials become outdated, not allowing students to grasp what is happening in real time.
These Scholastic magazines will provide my students with the tools to help practice the vocabulary, comprehension, and reading fluency skills needed and give insight on the issues happening in the world they live in.
With the magazine subscriptions, my students will continue to open their eyes to current local and worldwide situations and phenomena. Using these materials, we will look for patterns, debate points of views, and critically question the information presented to us, and assess their impact on ourselves, our communities, and the world at large.
