Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students have a special place in my heart and play a big role in my life. They are the reason I still teach and why I will continue to teach this population. My students are amazing young adults who struggle with managing their emotions due to troubled pasts, their home environments, and other factors. Despite all of their challenges, both behaviorally and academically, they shine with the right type of support and expectations. All my students want to do well, but they believe they cannot because they have been told that their whole lives.
What I love most about my students is their tenacity.
Every day they get up and come to school knowing that today may not be an easy day. Many things are difficult for my students (social interactions, decision making, grade-level academics, handling conflict, etc.). However, they want to do better and strive to be the people we believe them to be.
My Project
Due to this years unusual circumstances there will not be a traditional graduation ceremony for our 2020 class. However, I would like to give students an opportunity to commemorate their hard work.
Please help me give my students a graduation cap, and 2020 tassel to celebrate their achievement.
Many of our students could not afford graduation gowns. Typically we hand out "loaners" that they use during the ceremony, and are able to take photos in. Due to the pandemic, we are unable to do due.
The 25 graduation caps, and tassels would help celebrate their graduation, and give them plenty of opportunities for their those graduation selfies!
