My Students

My students are creative, passionate, and thoughtful. I teach art at a High School in West Allis, Wisconsin, which is right outside of Milwaukee. My students are so passionate about the arts and will spend time both in class and outside of class creating! It excites me when students show me drawings they do at home or in their free time.

My student's creativity and passion for the arts inspire me to grow as not only an instructor but also as an artist.

My classes are combined grades that include 9th-12th grade students with a wide variety of skill levels. In art class, we try new materials, learn about new artists, have critiques, practice collaboration, and learn new techniques. I have a handful of students who know they want to go to art school, so it is important I give them the best High School art experience as possible.

My Project

As a High School art teacher, I want to provide the best art experience for my students. At the end of each semester, there is an art show, which is a big event for students, teachers, and families in the community to come together. To display the art, I have minimal wall space and would love to be able to expand the art show. Having a mobile panel display board would allow me to do this. Students are so proud of the work they have made over the semester, so the art show is a positive and engaging experience for them to present their work.

With new art supplies, students will have the opportunity to try something new and create art that has meaning to them.

Since I am a first-year art teacher, I was handed down all materials. Most of the art materials are either extremely old, destroyed, or we don't have them. The art room is in desperate need of new brushes, for both watercolor and acrylic, as well as acrylic paint. Students have said they wish they could do more painting projects, but with a limited budget, I can only teach the basics. I also teach drawing and we don't have drawing pencils. Having a range of pencils teaches students about value and shading, which is a foundation of art. There are not many pencil sharpers and erasers, so having more would help students complete work faster. Sharpies are an important component of projects in the art room. One project is completely in sharpie where students choose a person who inspires them and creates a word portrait of them. All the supplies requested would make a positive impact on my students. They deserve to have basic art materials.
