My second grade students are creative, active, and diverse learners from a variety of backgrounds. Reading is an important part of the day for my 23 students, so much so that we read across all content areas in my classroom.
One thing all my students love is to read and to have access to quality books.
Reading helps my students build connections to their learning as well as each other. Reading also opens doors to places for my students to visit and characters for them to meet.
My Project
Have you ever been told to get a book and read it? Did you know what book you wanted? Was the book easy to find? Since I lack a display bookshelf my students have a hard time locating the great books I suggest they read to deepen their understanding of my core instruction.
Having a display bookshelf will help my students make quick independent reading choices that support our classroom learning.
This bookshelf will improve their lives because students will be able to make more connections to their learning. Making these meaningful connections it is one of the best ways to make learning stick.
