My Students

As a teacher for students from low-income/high poverty areas, my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. They have come to our school due to the challenges they have faced in the regular school setting, and have not done well.

Our program strives to help these students by giving them the social, emotional, and educational tools they will need on order to function and hopefully thrive in a regular school setting after completing their time with us, which will allow them to complete their schooling with their peers.

My Project

Our students look forward to their after lunch free time outside in our schools yard, where they play basketball with their friends and school staff. However, our backboards have fallen apart and are currently just some plywood that was put up. Students get frustrated because the backboards are warped with makes playing more difficult.

With new backboards our students will be better able to practice basketball.

This will also help our students build self confidence, develop team skills, and deepen relationships between staff and students.

New donated backboards will also show my students that there are people in this world whom they have never met nor will meet but sill care enough to help bring my students something they will enjoy using.
