My Students
My kindergarten students are typical 5 and 6 year olds. They have a lot of energy and love to learn. They are discovering the magic in learning to read.
Having a variety of high interest beginning readers is vital for maintaining the excitement in beginning readers.
In my classroom students have the ability to self select books according to their level. This allows for students to pick text that interests them encouraging them to want to read more and more.
Our classroom and school is set in a suburb of a major city and has a diverse population culturally and economically. My students come from all different backgrounds which makes our classroom/ school unique and special.
My Project
Our classroom library needs more books! Please help us improve the variety of books in our classroom library.
Our students need various levels of high interest books to maintain excitement in learning to read.
Quantity and variety are an important component of our kindergarten classroom library. This encourages self selection which supports the notion that when children can choose their on books, reading levels increase.
Please support our classroom by donating to a worthy project that will affect many children for years to come. Books are treasures, and we want to instill this idea at an early age where the foundation for reading begins!
More than a third of students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
