Gorgeous Greenhouse for the Gifted

My students need a mini greenhouse, a ready to plant growing kit, pocket chart learning centers, a tabletop science center and a plants activity tub.

FULLY FUNDED! Ms. Delaney's classroom raised $568

This project is fully funded

My class is comprised of diverse, dedicated determined, and dependable young learners who thirst for any opportunity to become more educated through discovery learning. I currently teach 2nd grade in a low income neighborhood. We have a large number of students who struggle in science and math due to lack of understanding and exposure. We practice full inclusion in every subject and provide additional assistance to our lower level students through a program called EIP (Early Intervention Program). We have a high ESOL population and several students would participate in our special education programs.

Our school currently falls under the Title I grant program, however we are still in need of additional support. The students in my classroom are always eager to learn and explore new things, and we rarely get the opportunity to learn outside of our school building. The district is facing possibly closing at the end of this school year if changes are not made in the next few months. My hope is that the state and federal government will see the students being actively engaged during every moment of the school day. We are in need of adequate materials to foster learning and motivate our youth. For many students school is their only outlet from the problems that occur in their home life. As a concerned educator I make it my duty to take advantage of every chance I see to make learning exciting and more meaningful to my class. Last year my students really loved the science unit that we completed on plants. Over the summer I thought about all of the additional activities that I could have done with my class to extend the project threw the school year, integrate other subjects, and make the learning experience more enjoyable and memorable.

My class is in need of a mini greenhouse kit, plants, pocket charts, science center activities, etc. These materials will allow my students to explore the growing process that plants undergo by providing them with hands on experience. It will also enhance their reading and writing skills as we record daily observations and read theme related books. I would like for my student to be exposed to plants that are different from the ones in their communities, and develop an interest in learning about all plants their many characteristics.

Your support in our efforts can make a lasting impression. Often times children perform poorly in school due to lack of interest, poor resources, and boring lessons. This can truly be a rewarding experience for both our class and Good Samaritans like yourself.
