My Students
I am an AIS teacher located in New York City. I teach eager kindergarten, first, second, and third-grade children who are struggling readers and writers. My students are devoted to learning but need a different approach toward their education. They need small group instruction that uses many types of manipulatives.
When my children are successful, the look of wonder in their eyes is a sight to behold.
It is truly what makes being a teacher the best job in the world.
My Project
My students are wonderful children who all have one thing in common. They are not fond of reading. I have tried many different genres of books but simply put I was having problems finding the hook into their interest in reading. Until I happened upon a Goosebumps book.
Goosebumps books have the ability to completely hold captive my students' attention.
I started to read "The Dead House" and suddenly you could hear a pin drop in the classroom. More importantly, we were holding discussions, making predictions and actually enjoying reading.
I am asking for a class set of Goosebumps books, Deep Trouble, for my children. I would love for them to have their own book so we can use it to write in the book. We can truly explore vocabulary, and ask questions using our own books.
Please help keep my students enthralled with reading.
