This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Everyday my students rotate through stations that include reading or doing math with the teacher, fluency practice and technology. I do not have enough technology to ensure that every student will get to use technology everyday.
My students live in a high poverty area in Arizona, a state that doesn't fund education in the way it needs to.
Our school is older and doesn't have the resources of the newer schools in our district. I have watched the students from my school donate food and blankets to needy citizens, or give up birthday money to buy something for someone else at Christmas. They are wonderful citizens who I would like to see get something back.
My Project
I am requesting 2 Google Chromebooks, mice, and mousepads for use in our classroom. These would be used by the students to not only play educational games on, but also to research topics for writing assignments. There are so many wonderful websites that are available to help build not only math fluency, but reading fluency and comprehension as well. While my students are building these skills they will also improve their typing ability and become more familiar with the tools that will be required of them as they continue in their education and out into the real world.
These notebooks would have a tremendous impact on my students.
Our older school has limited technology and it is very hard to get it into the hands of the primary grades (we are k-8). Even though they are only 3rd graders they need to practice typing and be able to research projects so they can explore the world around them. These laptops would add to our current technology allowing every student a chance to use technology everyday, which is necessary to create 21st learners.
