My Students

When I began teaching, one of my long-term goals was to bring new technology to my classroom. Budget cuts have taken away support and many of our older teaching techniques have been left in the dust.

My students are hardworking young people.

Many of them come from from poor socioeconomic backgrounds and do not have access to the same resources as many young people today. They are hungry for the opportunity to learn new things in new ways including with new laptop computers!

My Project

I would like to bring a Google Chromebook to my classroom as a component of our journalism program. This access would immediately broaden the context in which I could teach journalism today. Access to the reporting of today through the Chromebook will greatly increase the interaction between students and text. This device will be a part of our classroom for years to come and will allow young people the opportunity to experience firsthand the means by which news will be reported in the 21st century. My students need a Google Chromebook and construction paper for their classroom studies.

I envision the use of this device as creating a bridge between our own reporting and the work of professional reporters.

By using a Chromebook, students will be able to access up-to-the-minute information when conducting interviews and doing research. Students will become technologically savvy, as well as intellectually stimulated by having access to this resource.
