My students need books that better fit their reading level and interests.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
As a teacher in a high-poverty school, I have the unique opportunity to work with a group of thirty-three students from varying backgrounds who all contribute unique skills and experiences to our classroom.
Our class is made up of a multilingual and global community of learners, with over half the class speaking a language other than English at home.
These bright, innovative, spunky students are enthusiastic readers, writers, mathematicians, scientists, and historians. They deserve the best education in the world!
My Project
When I first came to my classroom I inherited a library of hand-me down books from the last teacher that taught in my class. Unfortunately, the majority of these books are "classics" that have protagonists that look different and live drastically different lives from my students. Because of this, my students are bored and disillusioned with the current set of books in my classroom and find little joy in reading them.
Wanting to give them more agency in their reading, I let my students create a wishlist for books that they must have in our library.
This donation page is a result of that wishlist. All of the books I am asking for were asked for directly by my students, and I know it will make such a difference in their reading lives to have books that they are actually interested in and want!
