Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I have a wonderful group of resilient students. We are now learning online but hope to be back together soon. Our school is in the South Bronx of New York and my students had many challenges before 2020.
This year, their grace and resilience has inspired and amazed me.
They have found new ways to use technology in their learning and have rolled with all the changes. Most of all, they have been so engaged with the social justice movement. We have had great discussions and they have written some wonderful pieces about police brutality, poverty and racial justice. They give me hope for the future.
My Project
The book March is not only inspiring to my students, but a very effective learning tool. It is a graphic novel which allows me to help work with students on many different reading levels. The use of graphics help struggling readers and engage reluctant readers. Having their own copy of this book helps with independent work. It is also gives a pride of ownership. Their own copy to keep would mean so much.
"March" will inspire my students to engage with a topic that motives them.
The beautiful graphic novel in the hand of each of my students, will inspire some great lessons. It will connect them to the material, each other, and the world.
