My students need books about the mathematics that they will be using and learning about in my classroom.
FULLY FUNDED! Ms. Rowe's classroom raised $412

My Students
I work at a Title 1 school in Brooklyn, NY. More than 90% of the students receive free lunch.
Many students are recent migrants to the United States.
We have a large English as a Second Language (ESL) population with the primary languages of my students ranging from Mandarin, Spanish, Bengali, Arabic, Russian, Uzbek, and Urdu. Some students have very limited schooling in their own language and are now pushed into a formal school setting. So, they are struggling to be proficient in English and the mathematical concepts.
My Project
Ratios and Proportions, Percents, and Equations and Inequalities are some of the main topics in Mathematics this year. I would like to bring books into the classroom to support my students' understanding of the mathematical concepts. With the help of real world ideas, and visual representations, my students will be able to better access the curriculum.
These books will provide concrete examples in which to apply abstract mathematical concepts.
Mathematical books would be a great addition to be integrated within our Units of Study. My students will be able to foster a love for reading and strengthen their English language skills, all while working on the mathematics embedded within the books.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
