Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Good= great, fabulous, fantastic, & fun! I am a second grade teacher in a high-need school located in a poverty-stricken neighborhood. Our students receive free breakfast and lunch and are in need of classroom materials that rival high-performing schools. The majority of our students are not English speakers. We have students who are refugees from other countries and from homes with little to no English models.
I am requesting these interactive learning tools to help my English language learners become proficient fluent speakers. The vocabulary that is necessary to succeed on state tests needs to be understood and meaningful to my students. These learning centers and charts will help my students become fluent speakers and succeed on state tests.
Currently our school teaches ELD (English Language Development) for 30 minutes a day. However, I try to implement language throughout the day and other content areas as much as possible.
Using the "word of the day" flip chart will teach my students a new word in a quick and easy manner each morning. The synonym games will be used during literacy centers. Lastly, the word sorting materials will be used a word study center to boost students phonemic awareness and help them understand how words can be related.
These tools will help me to integrate vocabulary and English throughout the day. Utilizing a word of the day to build powerful vocabulary and creating rich language centers will enable my students to become more fluent English speakers as well as have a better understanding of the language.
Please help my students to become the fluent English speakers that they desire to be. Help them to succeed in school and compete on state assessments with other schools that have more resources than us.
