My Students
In my first grade classroom, I focus on teaching character traits and good manners. At the end of the school year, I see all my students leaving my classroom with outstanding character traits such as empathy and tolerance for others. The ability to be kind and fair and have a strong conscience.
I am teaching in a first grade dual language classroom.
I have 50 students. There are 25 students in my morning class and 25 in my afternoon class. My students are amazing kids who are learning problem solving skills and developing strong character traits and good manners. My school is working to teach and develop character traits in all students. We focus on a different character trait each month and reward students who show that character trait on the playground or in the classroom. Students can even be nominated for "The Principal's handshake" for showing outstanding character.
My Project
These character education books will help me teach kindness, empathy, tolerance, conscience, fairness and respect in my classroom. These books can be used as a springboard for students to write about how they can show one or more of these character traits in their daily lives. These character education books can be used as a teacher read aloud or for students to read independently too.
This project will make a difference in my students lives because good character and manners are traits that students will need for the rest of their lives.
First graders are the ideal age group to focus on these traits and these books will help enhance their learning as we learn how to show good character.
