My Students
My students walk into my classroom excited and ready to learn. I teach PreK and Kindergarten Dual Language Immersion (DLI) Spanish. They are learning a new language whether it is English or Spanish. This is a new program that is half in Spanish and half in English. The students are a diverse group who are learning two languages.
I want my DLK students to have a great experience while learning Spanish language and culture.
My job is to help them achieve and be successful in school. I see them getting excited and more confident everyday.
My school is in a small city in Wisconsin. The students come from poverty-stricken, high absenteeism homes. Our school meets expectations according to the state and we have received 8 years of Wisconsin School of Recognition.
My Project
This is my first year teaching Dual Language Spanish so I need to build a strong Spanish library to encourage my students to use their new language. This exposure will expand their vocabulary and their excitement about learning Spanish.
Exciting, great books make students want to read more.
These books will help their social emotional learning by telling them how to react to different feelings. The fairy tales and nursery rhymes are subjects they hear at home and can relate to in school. Newer stories and old classics will expand their enjoyment of learning.
