Good Books + Listening Center = Great Kindergarten Readers

My students need a CD listening center with books to hear their favorite stories fluently.

My Students

Help us grow as readers. My students love hearing me read books, but they also need to become independent readers. A listening center helps them follow along on their own while listening to books that are being read.

My students are curious kindergartners who love to learn.

They look forward to coming to school each day. They attend a public school that is in the inner city. My students don't have books at home, so listening to books at school is a priority. They are able to recognize sight words , but I want them to be exposed to other words so they can expand their vocabulary. They are so enthused about learning more and more each day.

My Project

A listening center will motivate them to listen to books at a literacy center. Right now we only have a tape player and a few books, so they don't choose that center often. I want them to be exposed to different books such as fairy tales, so they can expand their minds and imagination. This CD listening center will give me more options to give them because most books are now being recorded on Cd's. Listening to different examples of fluent readers is so important in the primary grades.
