My Project
My students are a bright, inquisitive, and active group in the Montessori program at the Detroit Public Schools Community District. They are excited about many things, from watching and documenting Monarch caterpillars transform into butterflies, to building structures and compound words and skip counting to 1000 with the aid of the Montessori bead cabinet. They love to draw and are excited about learning to read.
These new books will expand our classroom library, allowing students more options during their daily reading time.
Having exciting books to read is key to building strong readers. My class is a multi-grade classroom with first to third-grader students, multi-age classrooms are a hallmark of Montessori classes. I have readers just gaining their confidence with simple books as well as students reading well beyond the third-grade level. The Mo Willems books have been very popular this year, encouraging sight word reading and laughter. I've added some early chapter books to encourage fluency and stamina. The National Geographic books have been quite popular and these titles are new to our classroom. The Owl Diaries and Elephant and Piggie books were specifically requested by several students. The Jada Jones, AZ Mysteries, and Dragon Master books have been recommended by teachers and students. The biographies are in response to a student's request. I'm confident these titles will both increase my students' enjoyment of reading and expand their knowledge of the world! We truly appreciate your support.
