Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
This is your chance to help a group of well-deserving and underprivileged children. I teach 4th grade in an inclusion setting. My students come from an economically disadvantaged community. The school in which I teach is a Title 1, inner city school where the children receive free breakfast and lunch daily.
The children in our community are in need of constant support and positive attention from our school community because it is not usually given at home. The children in my class not only need to be taught academics, but they also need to be taught appropriate means of communication and socialization, because once again, this does not occur at home. They look up to the teachers and staff in their school as positive role models. The focus of myself and of my school is to meet the needs of all children in order for each child to succeed in school and to become a productive member of society.
My students face several obstacles in their daily lives. The most obvious of these is the lack of parental support. Students come to school hungry, without necessary supplies needed to be successful, and unfortunately our school does not have enough money to supply our students with the materials they need to be successful in school as well as their community.
Most of my students' parents do not stress the importance of school and working hard in their everyday lives. Our children also suffer from a lack of opportunity. Most children do not participate in activities which teach them to interact appropriately and to handle conflict appropriately, as well. I try to provide many opportunities for my children to work cooperatively in order to foster academic as well as social development. In addition, my students need extra exposure to learning activities and academic opportunities because their parents and guardians do not review the skills and concepts taught at school while their children are at home.
The resources I've chosen to ask for will provide opportunities for my children to read books on their independent level. Children need to be exposed to a variety of genres and topics which interest them, while at the same time not being too frustrated. Providing students with a variety of books, will offer them the chance to read more often and therefore increase their reading levels, and progress academically in all subject areas.
Because I teach an inclusion classroom with 10 special education students, their needs differ from the rest of the class. This is why I have asked for book at a variety of reading levels. The availability of these books will increase their fluency, comprehension, and accuracy, all while having fun and reading books that are interesting and motivating.
The resources listed above will help me to teach and reinforce the skills and standards my students need to learn to become successful members of the community.
I want to thank you in advance for taking the time to read my proposal. I know that your contributions will help my students to develop a lifelong love for learning. Without your generous contribution I would not be able to provide these wonderful learning opportunities for my children. You have the chance to ensure that the needs of each child are met through differentiated instruction and cooperative learning. In addition, access to the materials I have asked for will make learning fun! Once again, I cannot express how thankful I am that you are taking the time to consider my proposal and improve the lives of my students through your generous contributions. You are very much appreciated.
